I attended a High School graduation today for my sister’s oldest child. As I was sitting there watching people find a place to sit, I realized that several people that graduated with my husband and I were there to see one of their children graduate. It struck me that even though we graduated together 31 years ago, we’re all in different stages of our lives.
You see our kids graduated years ago (son 8 years and daughter 5 years). They have both already served time in the military and are now full-blown adults living their lives. Yet, these High School friends of ours have kids graduating today! One of them even has a baby on the way while we are already grandparents.
I’m not sure why I was surprised by this but I was. The kids that walked across that stage today to get their diplomas all have different dreams and aspirations. Some may go on to college, others will join the military, some will enter the workforce and many may not know what their next steps are. All of those options are ok! And someday 30 years from now, they may find themselves in a similar situation as I was today. Musing over the idea that classmates have all taken different paths and sometimes they intersect and sometimes they don’t. May they all learn new things each day and grow in their own way!
